Reiki

The word Reiki means ‘universal life energy’ in Japan, where this therapy originated at the turn of the century.

Reiki is not a religion, nor is it a new age practice. No belief system is needed to benefit from receiving Reiki; all you need is a wish to be healed.

How Reiki Works

Energy surrounds us and flows through our bodies along energy pathways which are sometimes called meridians. When energy is blocked along these pathways our own natural healing will be blocked as well. This is thought to be the cause of disease.

By placing the hands on or above the body, a Reiki practitioner allows their patient to receive Reiki and use this energy to clear any blockages. Reiki flows naturally in response to the needs of the person receiving it, going where it is most needed.

The Reiki Treatment

The person being treated simply sits or lies fully clothed and the practitioner places their hands on or near to the body. The person receiving the treatment usually feels deep calmness and relaxation. They may also feel warmth, cold, tingling or other sensations. Each person will have different needs and so your experience will be an individual one.

How Reiki Can Help

Reiki is holistic and therefore works on all levels. Reiki can be used to relieve the symptoms of chronic illnesses such as anxiety, insomnia, back pain and arthritis, and often produces long term beneficial changes.

Aside from treating physical, mental and emotional problems, most clients report that a Reiki treatment feels wonderful, and promotes a sense of relaxation and well being.

Research has shown that it can speed up wound healing, lower blood pressure, reduce stress and help in the management of pain. It can be used by itself or alongside any other healthcare and can help to minimise the side effects of conventional medical treatment.
